Karate World Ratings
History
History of the System
Master Garry Holman founded Karate World Ratings in
the early 1980’s which is now known as KickZone Magazine. A native of Terrell County,
Georgia, he came to Maryland in 1969 after a tragic
loss in his family.
His initial interest in martial arts began
in the early 70’s through Boys & Girls Club
programs and his fascination with the legendary Master
Bruce Lee and his strong desire to be as good as his
brother Master Jack Holman.
He has been active in the martial arts for
over 30 years with disciplines in Tae Kwon Do, Tang Soo Do, Kickboxing, Hap Ki
Do and Judo as a student, instructor, competitor and
promoter.
Through various karate schools, numerous instructors
and various styles of martial arts since obtaining his
black belt, he has dedicated himself to promoting martial
arts, the teaching of children and Building a Better Tomorrow through his programs.
Master actively competed until 2011 to promote karate.
He believes that karate is an art of self defense as
well as a sport and KickZone Magazine and its rated
events provide diversified events that creates a positive
development network that reach more children and adults
than any other family oriented sport.
KickZone Magazine is an independent magazine and rating
system, which was organized to promote the sport of
Point Karate, Continuous Contact Karate and Kickboxing.
Sport Karate is a competitive sport and martial discipline,
which challenges the physical and mental attributes
of the competitors and contributes to the fitness and
the health of both the young and the old. The practice
of martial arts builds character, self-confidence, self-reliance,
and sound competitive values, which in turn gives rise
to good sportsmanship, good instructors and good citizens.
KickZone Magazine Ratings is a system based on points
earned by competitors participating in rated events.
Each competitor has the option to join by purchasing a membership card. Only members
will be tracked throughout the year and only members
who display good sportsmanship and remain in good standings
will represent the rating system.
In order to be fair to all promoters and to
better serve the competitors, The ratings have been
divided into adult, teen and children divisions. These
divisions have been broken down into over 30 categories.
They were created to provide an opportunity for the
youth and adults competitors in black belt or under-belt
divisions to become a title belt holder.
Master Holman believes that if KickZone Magazine Ratings
remains an independent rating system, based solely on
the points earned in competition and not for favoritism
and governed by the promoters and blackbelts willing
to serve on the Board of Directors, we can provide positive
events without the politics.
